About

Stefanie Murphy

Stefanie Murphy, M.S. CCC-SLP, is a dedicated and experienced speech-language pathologist based in Nashville, where she has been serving the community for over a decade. As a Nashville native, Stefanie brings a deep understanding of the local culture and needs to her practice.

Comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy

Our therapy services encompass a wide range of speech and language disorders, including Articulation, Language, Fluency, Social Skills and Executive Functioning. Through evidence-based interventions, we tailor treatment plans to meet each child's unique needs.

Articulation

How we produce speech sounds in the oral cavity using the lips, teeth, and tongue. Difficulties with articulation can lead to speech that is hard to understand and can impact effective communication.

Language

The ability to understand and process the language we hear or read. Understanding of vocabulary, putting words together, answering questions, and following directions.

Fluency

When speech is interrupted by sound or word repetitions, sound prolongations, or blocks. These disruptions or disfluencies can affect the speaker's ability to communicate effectively and may be accompanied by physical tension or struggle behaviors.

Pragmatics

(Social Skills)

How we interact with others, both verbally and non-verbally, through words, gestures, and body language. Strong pragmatic skills are essential for building relationships, navigating social interactions, and effectively communicating in various settings.

Executive Functioning

Skills to function in everyday life in academic and occupation settings. This includes categories such as memory, planning, following multi-step directives, impulse control, self-awareness, staying focused, organizational and study skills, and the execution of tasks.

Our Process

Consultations

Our consultation services are designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of our approach and how we can meet your specific needs. During the consultation, Grace Therapies will:

  • Discuss your concerns and goals regarding speech and language development.

  • Review any relevant medical or educational history.

  • Explain our process and what to expect from our services.

  • Answer any questions you may have about speech-language pathology.

  • Outline a potential plan of action tailored to your needs or your child’s needs.

Evaluations

Comprehensive evaluations are crucial for developing an in-depth understanding of speech and language issues. Our evaluation process includes:

  • Conducting detailed assessments using standardized tests and observational methods.

  • Gathering information from parents, teachers, and other relevant sources.

  • Analyzing speech/articulation, language, voice, fluency, and cognitive-communication skills.

  • Compiling a thorough report that includes findings, diagnoses, and recommendations.

  • Discussing the results with you and outlining a personalized treatment plan if needed.

Screenings

Screenings are quick, efficient checks to determine if there are any speech or language concerns that warrant further evaluation.  It is often described as a "snapshot" of skills. During a screening, Grace Therapies will:

  • Conduct a brief assessment of speech, language, and communication skills.

  • Use standardized tools and observational techniques to identify potential issues.

  • Provide immediate feedback on the results.

  • Recommend whether a full evaluation is needed based on the screening outcomes.

Therapy

Our therapy services are designed to address and improve specific speech and language challenges. In therapy sessions, Grace Therapies will:

  • Implement individualized treatment plans based on the evaluation results.

  • Use evidence-based techniques and activities tailored to the client's age and needs.

  • Provide hands-on, engaging therapy sessions that make learning enjoyable.

  • Monitor progress regularly and adjust the treatment plan as necessary.

  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to support generalization of skills to everyday life.

  • Offer strategies and exercises for continued practice at home to reinforce progress.

Our goal is to create a supportive and effective environment for developing essential speech and language skills, enhancing confidence, and improving overall communication abilities.

Client Success Stories

Mother of 4-5 Year Old Articulation Client

“My daughter started working with Stefanie Murphy for lingual protrusion lisp when she was four.  She always looked forward to her visits with “Ms. Stef”.  That’s because Stefanie effortlessly merges teaching and learning with fun!  In only 9 months, the lisp was completely gone.  My daughter is now in grade school and the teachers always compliment her pronunciation and speaking ability; I truly believe it is a product of Stefanie’s hard work with my daughter.  I highly recommend Stefanie Murphy and the Grace Therapies team!"
